Courmayeur
The golf course at Courmayeur is situated in the stunning Val Ferret and is just a short drive through the famous Mont Blanc tunnel. Like the course in Chamonix, it is a cross country ski area in winter, but come summer, as the snows melt, the valley transforms into one of the most picturesque parts of the Alps.
When we drive through to Italy to play golf, we think it is a crime not to take advantage of the local cuisine and we like to make lunch part of the Italian golf experience. Just opposite the course is the restaurant "La Tronchey" and we've known the owners Joanna and Marco for 15 years so you know they will take care of us.
This 9 hole course is played very little and as such always seems to be in the best of condition, even in the busiest of summer months. It is a 9 hole course but we play it twice from different tea boxes which is a clever way of making it feel like a real 18 hole course. There are plans to extend the course to 18 holes but the locals tell me that there are protected flowers nearby and therefore they cannot disturb the neighbouring flora.
